There are many ways to convert a document to PDF. The PDF format is thus a relatively complicated format, which can cause several issues.
We recommend that all PDFs that need to be uploaded to Penneo are created in PDF/A format, as this ensures that Penneo can read the PDF file correctly.
- Strange characters, the letters ÆØÅ are strange or written in replacement fonts:
In many cases, we see that a PDF created with the built-in plugin in Windows 10 results in the creation of files that Penneo cannot read. The problem occurs because no fonts are embedded in the PDF file and therefore Penneo can not read the file correctly.
- Black items or pages in the document:
We see some instances where a PDF suddenly has multiple pages or images that become black when the document is sent through Penneo. This is because there are several different transparent layers in the PDF, so we cannot prepare the PDF file to be digitally signed
- Save your files as PDF/A:
This is typically a simple option you can make in the program that you are creating the PDF file with.
- Use "Print to Penneo":
We have made our own PDF printer, which also sends the documents directly to Penneo.
If you have a version 2.1 or more recent of the desktop application, you don't need to download the printer as it is integrated. Instead, you just need to follow the guide here.
If the version of the desktop application you are using is older than 2.1, you can download the Penneo printer here
- Download a free PDF printer:
There are many free PDF printers. One of them is called CutePDF. which you can download from this link.
- If you are using a PDF printer, you can also print "from PDF to PDF" and thus get a PDF that fails to work.
